DENTAL FILLINGS

Tooth decay, also known as caries, occurs when the naturally present phosphorus and calcium content on the surface of the tooth decreases. A carious cavity, which we all know by its common name as a tooth ‘hole’, forms on the surface of the tooth damaged by decay.

You probably know that a tooth is the only thing in a human body that does not have the ability to regenerate / heal up by itself, so what should we do to prevent a tooth hole from getting bigger and causing even more serious problems? Any identified carious cavities should be filled. The tooth filling procedure is performed under local anaesthesia.

Before filling a tooth, the dentist removes the affected enamel tissue from the tooth surface and the tooth cavity is disinfected and isolated from saliva and other environmental factors that can cause infection. The cleaned carious cavity is filled with individually selected filling materials. During the filling procedure, the decayed hard tissues of a tooth are replaced with a filling and the soft tissues are protected from complications – where any problems caused by caries remain untreated there is a risk of more serious illnesses, such as pulpitis: a tooth nerve inflammation.

Thanks to modern technologies, the fillings are both durable and valued for their aesthetic qualities. The colour of the filling is identical to the natural colour of the teeth, which ensures a seamless and natural look of the teeth following the filling.
